Letter from Mrs. Aitken
12/4/2017 9:27 am
Dear Prestonwood Elementary Neighbors,
We would like to express our gratitude for your patience with our recent campus construction. Thank you for always being such good neighbors to our school. We hope to have an Open House in the Spring to show off our renovated campus.
Can we ask a favor? We love dogs, but are having a significant issue with our students coming into contact with dog defecation while outside at recess. Currently, our fields are available to neighbors to bring their dogs up to play during non-operating hours, however, it’s important that owners clean up after their dogs. If you see neighbors playing with their dogs on our campus, can you please spread the word about this issue and politely encourage them to clean up?
This issue has forced some other RISD schools to prohibit dogs on school property altogether, and while we do not want to have to take that step if we can encourage our neighbors to cooperate, the health and safety of our students is paramount.
Thank you so much for your support, and we appreciate any efforts to pass this letter along to homeowners in our area.
Sincerely,
Pam Aitken
Principal
Prestonwood Elementary

Student Insurance
8/14/2017 7:30 am
RISD cooperates in a program to offer low-cost accident insurance to students. This is a full access, accident-only policy for students that will help offset the rising medical costs and deductibles required by insurance carriers under your current health plans. Students or parents pay the premium for the coverage if they choose to participate. RISD is not responsible for treating injuries and cannot assume liability for any costs associated with an injury.
Enrollment forms will be sent home with your students during the first week of school. Coverage plans and online enrollment are available at www.studentinsuranceplans.com.

Elementary Registration Begins August 9, 2017
7/31/2017 8:26 am
Registration for the 2017-2018 school year will resume August 9 through August 11 from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
Until Prestonwood Elementary remodel is complete, we will be registering new students at Spring Creek Elementary - 7667 Roundrock Rd., Dallas 75248. Please check back here for updates – we’ll let you know when we are able to register from Prestonwood Elementary.
School begins on Monday, August 21, at 7:50am. Elementary parents are strongly encouraged to register their children prior to the first day of classes.
Please bring the following documents for registration:
- Birth Certificate
- Social Security Card
- Proof of Residence in RISD (your name must be on a current lease if you rent an apartment or on a gas, water, or electric bill if you own or rent a house)
- Parent’s Driver’s License
- Current Immunization Record
- Child’s Last Report Card
Every campus has limited capacity for each grade. Waiting to register may result in a child not being able to attend his/her neighborhood school and instead being assigned to another school through the Overflow Office. Please contact your neighborhood campus with any questions or visit www.risd.org . . . Due to the construction, the best way to contact someone with Prestonwood Elementary is to email Sharon.houghton@risd.org for questions specific to Prestonwood Elementary.
Thank you for your patience and understanding!
