KINDER TIPS

Attendance

Drop off

  • For the first day of school, our principal allows parents to walk their kinder child directly to their classroom.

  • After the first day, you will need to say your goodbyes outside the building on the porch. Teachers and older students will be available to help assist your child getting to class.

  • You can drop off in the carpool line and your child can go straight into the building.

  • If you are parking, you can park on the street, please do not park in the teacher lot.

  • Students should arrive no later than 7:50 AM.

  • Tardies start at 7:51 AM.

  • Unexcused absences will be taken after 9:00 AM.

  •

Pick Up

  • Dismissal is at 3:10 PM. (The kinder teachers try to have the kids out a few minutes before the whole building dismissal).
  • Prior to the first day of school, your child will be given a carpool tag with a number for pick up purposes. Please have your number with you at all times.
  • If your child will be a “walker,” please line up by the side door on the Nedra street side (they will start taking numbers early so it is best to arrive 5-10 mins early).
  • Let the teacher know you have your child and are leaving (usually a high-five or a hug from the child is the teacher’s routine).
  • If driving, would highly suggest parking on a side street and walking up to the side door (your kid would be designated a “walker” in that case,) so you don’t have to wait in the long car line
  • If driving, line up on La Cosa and have your number ready to give to person who it taking them
  • If your child is going home with another student (play date), be sure to call the front office or send a note to your child's teacher.
  • If your child is sick, you need to contact the office to let them know. (469) 593-6700  You can also email your teacher.  A hand written note needs to be delivered to the office within 3 days of your child returning to school.
  • If you are taking a vacation and are missing school, notify the teacher as soon as you can.  Please be aware that these will be unexcused absences.

Attire

  • Make sure your child wears tennis shoes on PE days.

  • Flip flops are not allowed on ANY day.

  • A change of clothes in your child’s back pack might still be a great precaution as they get used to the kinder routine.

  • Most girls like to keep a light cardigan in their backpacks and the boys can bring a sweatshirt (classrooms can get chilly). Make sure it is labeled with your child’s first and last name.

  • Spaghetti straps are not allowed.

Lunch

  • Lunch can either be brought from home or purchased in the cafeteria
    • To Buy: Create an account and fund it at https://paypams.com/ and your child will be assigned a PIN number for their badge to use when purchasing lunch.  No cash or checks are accepted in the cafeteria line.
    • Packed Lunch: If your child packs a lunch, consider a “trashless” option by purchasing a divided container.  This helps children not have to struggle with opening individual packets and containers, and helps the environment too!
  • Kinder students are not allowed to bring a snack, so it is best to pack extra items in your child’s lunch for the first month.
  • Water bottles are allowed in their cubby and can be taken to lunch with them.
  • A lunch visitor schedule will be sent home via the Panther Tales email and posted to the website once the school year begins. Lunch visits are allowed on birthdays. Visitors will be required to check in at the front office in order to receive a badge and check their student out. The visitor tables are located in the front area of the school. Please check the student back in at the conclusion of their lunch.

School Supplies

  • School supplies are purchased through the PTA and distributed to the teachers.  You can do this online.  Please note that this is not a fundraiser for our school or PTA, but rather a convenience for PWE families and preferred by our teachers.

  • Kinder teachers usually dump all of the supplies together and replenish the stash as needed.

  • Back Pack Suggestions:

    • Water Bottle

    • Light jacket or sweater

    • Lunch Box

    • Extra Pencils

Communication

  • PTA provides e-newsletters via email every Tuesday. Make sure you are registered through the PTA’s website, Membership Tool Kit.

  • Panther Tales will be sent from the school bi-weekly via email with updates from the school and important dates/announcements.

  • Tuesday Folders –Every Tuesday, a mAnika folder will be sent home with paper copies of fliers with info for the whole school, sometimes specific to the grade/class, and sometimes just for your kid. Graded work will also be included. Make sure to read and sign your child’s Tuesday folder and send back every Wednesday.

  • Each classroom teacher will have their own way of communicating (seesaw app, class dojo, etc); classroom teachers are usually announced in August and then there will be a “Back to School Bash” where you can come meet your teacher and get a specific classroom orientation, tour the school, meet friends, etc
  • Facebook- I’ve wanted to quit a million times but it is so helpful for staying on top of class/school stuff. The following pages would be good to follow/like:
  • RISD will call/text/email. Please make sure all of your information is up to date.
  • PWE’s Back to School Wizard will be live the week before school to get signed up for the ROAR newsletter, Feed the Panther (donate to the school), input all contact information for the school year, buy Spirit Wear (if available) and join the PTA.
