Free & Reduced Meals

To maintain Title 1 status, at least 40% of PWE students must qualify and apply for Free and Reduced Lunch.  Title 1 is a Federal Program that provides funding to public schools based on need.  In the 2021-2022 school year, 40% of PWE students qualified for Free & Reduced Lunch.  All families that qualify are encouraged to apply.

Free and Reduced Meal Program

After a two year break during the pandemic, the federal government is again requiring families to sign up to receive free or reduced price school meals in the upcoming school year at most RISD schools. This document explains the return to the pre-pandemic meal benefits application process in RISD.

Richardson ISD provides free and reduced-price cafeteria meals for students from families who qualify based on federal government guidelines. The meals served each school day are offered through the National School Breakfast Program/National School Lunch Program.  For more information, click here.

NEW!  Now you can apply for free or reduced school meals online! The process is quick easy and FREE, and in a few short steps you’ll be done!

For a hard-copy, please see the school office.

To avoid delays, complete ONE application per family. Print clearly and complete all required information. List everyone in the household and an adult signature is required. Multiple or incomplete applications will delay processing.

If a student was on the meal program at the end of the last school year, the benefit will carry over for the first 30 Days of school. A new application must be submitted to continue benefits for each school year.

NEW! Now you can check on the status of your application for free or reduced school meals online. This is also a FREE service. Visit www.schoollunchstatus.com and then select your state (Texas) and then your District (Richardson). Enter the confirmation number from the online application or the student's name and ID number. Click "Submit" to view your application status. It's that easy! You can also print your own letter for proof of meal benefits from this site.
